Why visit? Finding yourself in the outer reaches of the East Riding with two hungry kids fresh from a trip to the beach, a wife who needed to relax with a glass of wine and a dog in tow, you could do worse than find yourself in Sewerby, near Bridlington.
The Ship Inn is tucked well away off the main road, but can be spotted far more easily from the cliff top.
There is a large beer garden looking down towards the sea, with a children's playground, a small amusement arcade and plenty of benches and tables.
Inside there's lots of dark wood, log fires, intimate cubby holes and a friendly atmosphere.
What's on the menu? Lots of choice for all ages, tastes and palates. The two meals for £11.49 menu has choices such as ham and eggs, homemade lasagne, roast of the day or vegetarian dish of the day.
I had the rustic ham and eggs, with chunky chips, which was unfussy and wholesome. My wife went for the small battered haddock and chips, which was declared tasty and fresh with lovely crispy batter.
The kids had chicken nuggets (home-made and enormous) and sausage and chips (good quality butcher's sausage, again with chunky chips).
The menu choice is huge and I would defy anyone not to find something to their taste. From starters to light bites, sandwiches then on to desserts, you could go every week for a year and still have a different meal.
We finished off our evening sharing a couple of desserts with the kids. The lip-smacking Ice Cream Oreo Biscuit Cake was a real tummy trembler, and the Eton Mess was excellent.
